We went camping in the Black Hills over Memorial weekend with Jacob's counselors in the Young Men's presidency. They were going to this spot for scout camp and wanted to scout it out ahead of time. So instead of loosing our husbands for an entire weekend the other gals and I said we would love to come along!!
I am not sure I will ever go camping on Memorial weekend again, unless it is closer to the equator. It rained 90% of the time and the other 10% it was cold and windy. We drove 6 hours to get there, tent camped for 3 nights and then 6 hours to get home.
The kids had a great time and the other families were great to be with for the weekend. I think my frustration was with holding a none walking/still crawling, 1 year old for an entire weekend when she would rather be playing in the dirt. By half way through the second day I gave up and let her role in the dirt. We were both much happier.
Mason is wearing flip flops with socks because his shoes were soaked.
Cool hat Mason!
Your's is cool too Tirzah!
We went to a "Crooked" house. It was weird! They guide you on a tour up a steep hill and into the house were your body and your eyes are not telling your brain the same things. It made me sick to my stomach and I had to step out of the house. Rylie is standing with Camille, Ashley and Kate Jones who were part of our camping group.
Mason and our friend Michael are supposed to be the same size or something. I didn't really get this one, but the guide placed a level on the blocks they are standing on just to prove "something".

Rylie got to help with the water and ball going "up" hill!
The ball never made it to the guide's hand. It would stop right before it and roll back to Rylie even though it looks downhill!
Jacob demonstrating the "crooked" hang. He is not making his body go sideways, it just does that.
Trying to stand up straight without falling over.
Jacob and our friend Troy Russon helping in another tricky size demonstration. I really didn't get these.
We had to pump our arms in and out really fast to build up energy/look ridiculous for a funny joke from the guide at the very end! These are all our friend that were with us for the weekend-lots of girls!
The youngest 4 playing in the water with winter coats and hats on.
We MUST have fun even though it is only 40 degrees.
Rylie's favorite spot right above our campsite. There were some large boulders, grass, dirt and trees-HEAVEN for Rylie. I think they were runaways, fairies, animals and whatever else they could come up with in their play area.
Mason is with Kate and Sarah Jones in "the Fort"
Mason's best friend the whole weekend was the FIRE. He sat in this little chair for three days poking the fire and burning things. The other two boys were 3 and 4 years old and one was his brother, so he was on his own. He did really well with the fire until the last day. His stick fell by the fire and he reached to grab it and touched the metal edge with his arm. I saw him do it, but didn't realize that he had actually touched it. He just kept checking his arm the next half hour and I saw it, but it looked like a scratch. Finally Jacob noticed he was looking at his arm and asked to see it, by then a huge blister had formed and it looked quit painful. He hadn't even moaned about it!
Typical Zach face.
We actually got to hike from our campsite into Mount Rushmore. It was a 3 mile flat hike through a beautiful forest. We ate ice cream and took pictures at Mt Rushmore while the Dad's ran back to the campsite to bring back the cars. We were supposed to hike the round trip, but one way was exhausting enough. We had 13 kids under the age of 10 and only 3 boys!
Exhausted after hiking and hiking and hiking.
Rylie and Emily
