I love floaties!

I love having a swimming pool to go to as often as we want. We go 3-4 times a week and love it. I am very happy to have two kids who are confident around water. I just throw on the arm floaties and they are good to go.
We have had a couple incidents where they forgot they didn't have them on and jumped in. I was in the pool with Rylie both times she did it and got to her immediately. Mason, however, was not so fortunate.
We had just gotten to the pool and I was still talking to Jacob on the cell phone. Mason was walking very close to the edge and I told him twice to come here. Then he just looked at me and jumped (with his little rain boots still on). The next few things happened in less than a second--I yelled (while still on the phone) Mason no, no, NO, NO, NO--ran over the edge and wondered if he would surface and I could just reach down and grab him--decided I had better not wait and jumped in (with my pants and shoes on)--pulled Mason out and realized I grabbed him upside down and his feet were out (with cute green boots still on) and his head was still under--quickly flip him around--SAVED. Thanks to Olivia, Mason knows how to hold his breath and he was just fine. While I was pulling him up I looked over a saw something black on the bottom of the pool. I thought "how did my phone end up in here, I really hope that's not it." Well it was and after a week of drying it still didn't work. Luckily I had an old one that the store resurrected for me. Jacob had to wait a whole hour before I got ahold of him to tell him Mason was OK. He just heard the NO, NO, NO and big splash then silence.
The next time Mason jumped in (with floaties) he hesitated just a second, mid jump, then was happy to see he floated right up like usual.

Nice save. We've had similar experiences with Elia when she was first around a pool. Now that we're in Utah we really miss having the pool so close. Sorry about the phone. Your story should be adapted for one of those cingular commercials where they loose service mid-way through the call and the person on the other end is panicking.

I took care of a 2 year old at work the other day who did not have the same quick parents as Mason did. It is amazing how quickly it happens, we are glad it all went well.

Oh man, that is scary. I am glad Mason is okay! We've had some issues with McKay running out in the road and cars having to stop for him. That is about the only thing I haven't liked about this age - that they don't quite "get" safe/unsafe all of the time.

Yikes! Way to go to Rylie for teaching him how to hold his breath. I am glad your little Mason is okay! Poor Jacob probablly was frantic not knowing what is going on. Just goes to show Mom's have to be on the alert 24/7, I swear kids have radar and they know the second your attention is elsewhere they get into trouble.

Oh wow. I was on the edge of my seat reading that!! It is a good thing that they are fearless! And yes, all of the bathtub time in nana's tub paid off when he knew how to hold his breath! I'm so glad that Jacob is home! Tell him we said hi!

Oh that is scary. Way to go fishing him out so fast. We started swimming lessons this year and April is VERY cautious but Janey doesn't care, so I'm sure we will be having our own underwater adventures.
